etymology

The word 'family' comes from Latin familia, "household; household servants," which came from another Latin term famulus, "servant." It was not until 1667 that the term was used specifically for the group of persons consisting of parents and their children. Now, family is a term used to denote a domestic group of people, or a number of domestic groups linked through descent (demonstrated or stipulated) from a common ancestor, marriage or adoption. As our family is spread acorss this third rock from the sun, this is my effort to get us all in one place online.

What is genealogy?

Dictionary says it is the study of family lineage, but those of us who have delved into it can tell you that it is much more than the dictionary definition. Since the 18th century it has developed into subsidiary disciplines and one amongst them is 'family history'. Family History is far more interesting than Genealogy. It is here that we place people in their time period and find out how they lived. I've sent you all the credentials to aceess our genealogy section. It dates back to six generations.
